At home constantly, abroad progressive
Dušan Krchňák, Chairman of Referee Committee and his view over autumn 2009 at home and abroad

Mr. Krchňák how do you evaluate the referees during the first part of the season 2009/2010 in Slovak leagues?
I can say they did their best therefore I evaluate the referees positively. I did not see any big problem and the Referee Committee received just 9 complains of decisions taken by the referees from the clubs. There are 3 complains in Corgoň league (Premier league), 3 complains in League 1 and 3 complains in League 2. As in a economy the statistics is very important and in a football as well. I have to say that not all of 9 complains were reasonable.

When we talk about marking from the referee´s observers and a number of matches we can conclude that the number of complains in comparison with number of matches is minimal. If we are concrete from 501 matches in autumn part of season there are just 9 complains that means 1, 79 %. Even there are top FIFA referees in Slovak leagues the mistakes will always occur.

Previous autumn part in 2008 the Referee Committee received just 4 complaints. When we compare this season it is very similar even there are little more complaints.
I agree, there are small diferences when we compare the previous season.

These facts and statistics sign that the referee decisions are lets say constant?
Exactly, the statistics is absolutelly clear. Last 2 – 3 years we achieved minimal complains.

As you mentioned before Referee Committee did not accept all of these complains as reasonable.
Indeed. Sometimes we receive really strange complains and the situations that we have to judge are absolutely clear according to Law of the Game. There are several reasons why the clubs do this. Sometimes they just seek excuses of their failure.

Between the referees we can follow birth of new generation that is prepared to replace the old one. What do you think about this change?
We can compare a young referees and a young managers: they are more go-getting, more agressive what sometimes does not appertain to them and sometimes does not belie to their qualities. They do realize one very important matter. And that is communication skills and physical precondition are serious criteria in referee ranking. It is not enough just „whistle on a pitch“. An achievement of the referee must be complex. When we talk about communication skills they have to speak English because this is an official language at international level. Young referees in a programme „Talent & Mentor“  they fulfil these criteria. It is up to them if they are able to achieve and prove they can do it. Slovak referees achieved very goof ranking at international level. If somebody thinks we are weak after Ľuboš Micheľ leaving now we can say it is not true. UEFA Referee Committe moved forward Pavol Olšiak to the 2nd group and Richard Trutz to the 3rd group. Especially Richard Trutz moved higher just after one year in previuos group. Pavol Olšiak achieved very good eveluations in his matches. We still hope it was not the last movement because we have five FIFA referees. Except Olšiak and Trutz we have Mário Vlk and Vladimír Vnuk who got  also good marks  in a last season as well. Ján Valášek is a new FIFA referee
at international level.

We can say it is good result that we have five referees in FIFA list, right?
Exactly, regarding to Slovakia is really small country we are satisfied. Slovak referee school has a good reputation and the current international referees confirm this fact. None of them can move to TOP UEFA level in one year but during three or four years it is achievable. And we can not forget ten Slovak asistent referees in FIFA list.

FIFA has approved three women referees and 4 women asistent referees.
This is also significant fact. Unfortunately health state of Ivana Kosturova is not very well and we consider to change her. Slovak women assistant referee Maria Lisicka achieved unbelievable success when she was appointed during the WOMEN´S EURO 2009 in semifinal match.
